Kudos: An Ohio State University economic impact study conducted in 2006 reported that the lodge generated more than $8 million in economic impact to Ashtabula County. Several years ago, the lodge was ranked No. 1 in customer service among properties managed or owned by Delaware North Cos. (DNC) Parks and Resorts. The lodge won DNC’s Continuous Improvement Award in 2008.
What’s new: Adding a small spa is being discussed; when high season ends, work will begin to add wireless Internet access throughout the property and to upgrade audiovisual equipment in meeting spaces. The lodge redesigned Horizons restaurant in the spring, adding a stone fireplace and other touches for more ambiance.
Location: The lodge is 53 miles east of downtown Cleveland in the northeast corner of the state adjacent to Geneva State Park on Lake Erie. Erie, Pa., is 63 miles northeast; Buffalo, N.Y., is 151 miles northeast; and Pittsburgh is 174 miles southeast.
Rooms: 109 guest rooms, including traditional doubles, queens and kings, as well as whirlpool rooms, two-room suites and family rooms with bunk beds,.
Meeting space: More than 8,500 square feet of conference space includes a 5,412-square-foot divisible ballroom, a 1,332-square-foot meeting room and up to four small breakout rooms
Amenities: Horizons serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in an octagonal dining room with a lake view; in warm weather, guests can dine outdoors. There’s live entertainment many weekends in the lounge. A gift shop stocks Ohio-made products, including wines; there is an indoor and an outdoor pool, two hot tubs and a workout facility; bike and snowshoe rentals and a resort-run wine shuttle for a fee takes guests to area wineries. Rooms that allow pets are available.
Transportation: The nearest airport is Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, an hour’s drive. The lodge is about 10 minutes from Interstate 90.
