Transformation of Marriott hotel and conference center near D.C. unveiled

HYATTSVILLE, Md. – College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center has unveiled its new name and re-imagined function space, guest rooms and restaurant after a year of renovation. Previously known as the Marriott Inn and Conference Center University of Maryland University College, the facility has overhauled both décor and function.

“College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center’s new name and renovated spaces reflect the hotel’s commitment to provide an exemplary guest experience and dedication to serving the College Park community,” said Mike McCarthy, general manager of the site.

The new Potomac Ballroom features 6,700 square feet and windows overlooking a Georgian-inspired garden. The 8,200-square-foot Chesapeake Ballroom received a facelift with custom metal-beaded chandeliers as a backdrop for larger meetings. The hotel also added a 250-seat conference dining room and 18 redecorated meeting rooms.

A new pub-inspired restaurant called The Commons offers contemporary American cuisine with ingredients from local farms.

The renovations also updated the 111 guest rooms and fitness center. Marriott has also recently rolled out new meeting planner apps, such as Mobile Check-In; Red Coat Direct, a pocket concierge for event planners; and Workspace On Demand, a way to book free and paid meeting spaces.
