Travel to Mackinac Island in style

Courtesy The Grand

Ferries are not the only way to arrive on Mackinac Island. The island has an airport for private and charter aircraft. Horse-drawn taxis will deliver passengers from the Mackinac Island Airport to the Grand, a mile away.

Guests can also fly from their hometown airport directly to Mackinac Island on the Grand’s Cessna 421C. Up to seven passengers can ride in comfort. The plane has a cruising speed of 260 mph., so Chicago and Detroit are under 90 minutes away.

For those who don’t fly charter, commercial air service to Pellston Regional Airport, 12 miles south of Mackinaw City, Mich., is available daily through Delta Airlink from Detroit.

Registered guests of the Grand receive a discount when they use Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry. Shepler’s can also serve as an off-site venue for groups when they charter a ferry. As many as 180 passengers can cruise beneath the Mackinac Bridge, around Mackinac Island and along coastlines past historic lighthouses. The cabin can be set for a casual dining experience, hors d’oeuvres or a buffet.
