Unexpected Columbia

Venture Out of the Box

If your event includes some team building, the University of Missouri’s Venture Out program can get your team out of the box and outdoors. Whether your attendees are more adventurous or you want to do some exercises at your meeting site, Venture Out offers a program tailored specifically to your needs. Alpine tower, rock-climbing and rope-climbing courses allow the more adventurous teams to engage in vigorous group activities. Indoor programs are less physically challenging. Venture Out also offers first aid and CPR certification training, a great service for employees who are required to be certified or recertified.

Nothing to Be Blue About

One might expect there to be a lot of venues offering nightlife in a college town, but the surprising thing about Columbia is the level of entertainment offered. The Blue Note, a Columbia institution for 30 years, has often featured up-and-coming artists who are headed for stardom on “The Tonight Show.” The Blue Note features a renovated historic theater for private rental. The venue has capacity for 500, as well as projection equipment and a full bar. Other after-hours venues include LogBoat and Bur Oak breweries, the Missouri Theater and the Boone County Museum and Galleries.

A Cornucopia of Meeting Sites

Columbia offers a wide range of convention and meeting sites from which to choose. The Stoney Creek Hotel offers a lodge theme and a total of 11,000 square feet of meeting and convention space. The historic Tiger Hotel, built in 1928, offers nostalgic downtown charm with modern amenities and 4,100 square feet of space. The Broadway Doubletree by Hilton has 3,900 square feet of meeting space downtown, with The Roof, an outdoor/indoor venue boasting beautiful views of the city. Hilton Garden Inn, with 12,738 square feet of space, is located off Highway 63, close to Bass Pro Shops.
