Water and wine in the Finger Lakes

Skaneateles
At the top of one of the Finger Lakes’ smallest lakes, Skaneateles, sits the village of the same name.

A half a mile from the village on a knoll overlooking the village is Mirbeau Inn and Spa, where th hotel, the spa and the restaurant have all earned Forbes Four Star rating.

As if the Finger Lakes weren’t laidback enough, the 34-room Mirbeau goes several steps further. The minute guest step in, they seem to relax — the inn’s Ally Mead believes it is either the spa’s eucalyptus steam room or the restaurant’s garlic pomme frites. “Either scent puts you in a different mindset,” she said.

The inn’s grounds seem to have stepped out of a painting by Monet. After a long meeting, massage or a steam room, or one of many nooks and crannies where guests can unwind await. Much like the rest of the Finger Lakes, says Mead, Mirbeau “is a place where you can balance yourself back out.”
