Ways to unwind in Wisconsin

Feel a little tense? Wound up? Wisconsin might be a logical place to decompress.

Spas are not sparse here. In fact, almost every resort of any size has one and several are among the best in the region — and in at least one case, the world.

According to Spa Magazine, Wisconsin is home to the Midwest’s No. 1 Amazing Spa, the Kohler Waters Spa, part of Kohler, the region’s only AAA Five Diamond resort. Kohler Waters was also named one of the world’s best spa’s by Travel and Leisure readers.

Those readers also applauded Sundara Spa, at the Sundara Inn in the Wisconsin Dells, where clients can follow a massage with a purifying bath. Also in the Dells, spouses can slip away for a pedicure or body wrap while their children play in the waterpark at the Kalahari Resort or at the Great Wolf Lodge.

The Aspira Spa at the Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake consistently earns the AAA Four Diamond rating. Its relaxing setting on Green Lake adds to the appeal of the Evensong Spa at Heidel House Resort.

You don’t have to visit a resort to make use of a spa, however. Some day spas can accommodate group business, including Spa BenMarNico’s in downtown Appleton. “It can handle up to 40 people at a time for facials, massages and the like,” said Pam Seidel, director of marketing and community relations for the Fox Cities CVB. “We recently had a group use them, and we had a wonderful response.”
