Bay Area Houston, a region of six small towns between Houston and Galveston, lives up to its name with a number of waterside event venues.

“The best aspects of planning meetings in Bay Area Houston are the relaxed pace, the casual atmosphere and the versatility of our waterfront region,” said Rebecca Thompson, director of sales and services for the convention bureau. “And the fact that we’re on the water in an easily reachable location is always popular to build attendance.”

Here is a sampling of waterfront venues.

One of the area’s largest hotels, the 243-room Hilton-Houston NASA Clear Lake, is on Clear Lake, and many of its guest rooms, as well as part of its 15,000 square feet of meeting space, have views of the lake and the adjacent marina. The hotel recently wrapped up a two-year renovation of its guest rooms, lobby, other public areas and meeting space.

Carothers Coastal Gardens in Seabrook is an eight-acre estate on the bay with a stately main house, gardens and its own sandy cove.

At Kemah Gardens in Kemah, groups can sit lakeside in a 3,000-square-foot pavilion in the midst of four areas acres of pines and lofty trees.

Meetings and retreats of 20 or fewer can look out on Clear Lake as they meet in the sunroom at Beacon Hill Bed and Breakfast in Seabrook.

The Boardwalk FantaSea is a new 117-foot yacht that can become a floating restaurant or a meeting room. As it ventures around the bay, the 149-passenger yacht passes waterfront homes, a lighthouse and the Kemah Boardwalk.
