Wicomico County is worth watching

Tell me about some interesting venues for off-site events.
• A three-story atrium at the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art overlooks Schumaker Pond.

• Bordeleau is French for “on the water’s edge” and that description suits Bordeleau Winery, on Wicomico Creek 15 minutes south of Salisbury. A brick fireplace warms a patio; a small gathering room is bounded by wine bottles.

• The Red Roost was once a chicken house; today, it is 40 years into serving fresh crab and other Eastern Shore traditions, from a traditional feast of Maryland crab soup, fried chicken, Virginia baked ham, St. Louis-style barbecue, and local corn on the cob to a Maryland Crab Feast.

• Take the crew out to the ballgame at Perdue Stadium, home to the Delmarva Shorebirds, a Class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.

Where should we dine?
SoBo’s Wine Beerstro is known for wine, with more than 100 selections and specialty lists like “20 for $20.” The Greene Turtle takes tacos to new heights. Try pulled pork atop cabbage slaw and finished with a Thai chili sauce. Brew River has kept growing since it opened in downtown Salisbury 13 years ago. Among its popular additions is a deck bar next to the Wicomico River.

New dining areas can handle groups as large as 300. For a multicultural meal, try Cactus Taverna. Load up on soft shell crab, baked chorizo, grilled quail and spanikopita. From alligator to octopus, the options are numerous.

What kinds of special things will Salisbury do for meetings?
CVB staff helped a meeting planner give attendees a real taste of the Eastern Shore by arranging motorcoach tours of local breweries and wineries.
