WEST BRANCH, Iowa — The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum in West Branch, Iowa, recently reopened with a grand celebration on August 6 following an 18-month renovation.

Iowa’s only Presidential Library and Museum had been closed since January 2025 for its first renovation since 1992. The project included an all-new facade at the front of the building, a small expansion to the main lobby and gift shop, and refreshed and updated exhibits.

“We have set out to provide our visitors, from across the state to across the globe, with the most genuine, thought-provoking and engaging experience with the Hoover story,” said Tom Schwartz, director of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum. “Through the use of new research, new technologies and new immersive spaces, we are eager to share this extraordinary opportunity to engage with our nation’s history.”

For the first time, the stories of President Herbert Hoover and First Lady Lou Henry Hoover are told together, emphasizing their partnership and legacy. From their beginnings with Iowa roots to traveling the world and following the path of public service, visitors will experience the uncommon lives of the Hoovers as leaders and humanitarians.

The museum offers a variety of venue rentals for events, including the Main Lobby, which can be used for receptions. Figge Auditorium seats 175 people and has a stage and audiovisual equipment for symposiums, presentations, cultural events, award ceremonies and musical performances.

The Olberg Room is a multipurpose area ideal for educational uses, seminars and small luncheons. Up to 35 people can be seated at tables in the room, which is 681 square feet and includes a 72-inch smart board.

The entire museum, including the Main Lobby, Olberg Room, Figge Auditorium, and optional private tours, are available for bookings upon request. A maximum of 200 people and 30 days’ notice is required. The full-access rental includes showings of the Hoover documentary film, use of Figge Auditorium and access to exhibits at no additional charge.

“Visitors will leave with a lasting impression, seeing firsthand how the Hoovers have impacted our everyday lives and how this space serves as a monument to American history,” Schwartz said.

The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum is one of 16 presidential libraries under the purview of the National Archives and Records Administration. Located just off Interstate 80, 10 miles east of Iowa City, the Presidential Library and Museum is found within the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, a 187-acre park administered by the National Park Service.
