NASCAR star is driving force behind Emporia meeting center

EMPORIA, Kan. — NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer is used to moving fast, so he found the slower-than-expected completion of a community building he funded in his hometown a little frustrating. As Bowyer told the Emporia newspaper, ā€œI’m still new to building things. It seems like those things are never on schedule or on budget.ā€

Still, the Bowyer Community Building moved faster than many projects, opening 10 months after work began.

Built of native stone, wood timbers, stained concrete and glass, the 6,000-square-foot facility sits on the Lyon County Fairgrounds and is being marketed for small conferences and meetings.

Outfitted with a catering kitchen, a bar and restrooms, the center also has a 7,500-square-foot outdoor area that is partially covered. Overhead doors open from the building to the space, where guests can gather around a fire pit in cool weather.
