‘Hog’ heaven
Another new property, the Chancellor Hotel, is scheduled to open Sept. 14 in nearby Fayetteville, hometown of the University of Arkansas and its beloved Razorbacks football. The upscale 200-room Chancellor occupies the former Radisson, and it features 14,000 square feet of event space, which includes a 4,800-square-foot ballroom.

The Chancellor is across the square from Fayetteville’s convention venue, Town Center.  A makeover in 2011 included new carpet, paint, tile and lighting. Its 13,570-square-foot main hall can be divided into thirds. There’s also a conference room. Weddings have been the center’s main business, said event coordinator Collin Brunner, “but we’ve been branching out to do more business meetings, conventions and expos.”

Fall is a bustling time in Northwest Arkansas thanks to Razorback football. “There’s a lot of traffic up here and all over,” said Eichenberger.

With 28,370-acre Beaver Lake, the Ozarks and many state parks, the area is also busy in summer. The number of visitors should only increase. Travel + Leisure magazine has placed Bentonville on its list of the hottest travel destinations of 2012. The list also includes Sri Lanka; Toronto; and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Aloft Hotel in Rogers got a plug last year on the “Today Show,” and the Crystal Bridges Museum is generating a buzz.
