A woman described as a “larger-than-life speaker and trainer who jump-starts the hearts and minds of audiences” will be the keynote speaker at the sixth annual Small Market Meetings Conference, September 27-29, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
DeDe Murcer Moffett is an artist and entertainer, an author and a businesswoman. The audience shouldn’t be bored. Moffett will sing, dance, tell stories, do parodies and involve audience members in a high-energy motivational presentation she calls “Stand Up and S.N.A.P. Out of It!,” where S.N.A.P. stands for “See New Achievable Possibilities.”
Moffett was asked exactly what she urges people to snap out of. “Self-deception, which is how we get into our ‘boxes,’” said Moffett. “It may be in what we believe is true so much so that we’re unaware of the realities and can’t move forward. What are we doing to cause our unhappiness and lack of success, motivation and commitment? We can really get into the blame game and say it’s everybody else’s fault. The fact is we have multiple choices.”
This philosophy comes from Moffett’s own life story. A recovering alcoholic, she drank while she worked in corporate business for 24 years. She describes herself as a former bottle-of-wine-a-night drinker. “I was playing that victim role in my mind,” she said.
That was before she decided to take personal responsibility, make lasting changes, unleash her best work, challenge limits and see possibilities in life, all personal goals she urges audience members to adopt.
Before becoming a speaker and entrepreneur, Moffett spent 25 years as a corporate sales executive for some major national companies and became one of the first women to find success in what then was considered “a man’s world” — that is, heavy equipment and forklift sales. Her presentation will also touch on some of her tenets for leadership.
“I like to call it entertaining leadership because I believe influential leadership comes from the heart, and the heart is activated by emotions,” said Moffett. “If we can entertain people and take them through a journey, the learning process really sticks and hits home and causes them to act.”
In her presentation, Moffett will tackle another of life’s challenges — coping with change — and do it in a fun, nonthreatening way.
“It’s about seeing what you choose to bring into your life to numb you out, to dumb you down so that you can’t be all you can be,” she said.
Moffett has taken her message to multiple media platforms including television, radio and books and performs an autobiographical one-woman show, “If I Stop, Then Who Am I?”
Moffett is the niece of the late major league baseball star Bobby Murcer, who played primarily for the New York Yankees during a 17-year career. Murcer died of brain cancer in 2008. Moffett briefly shares his story of courage and determination. She and other Murcer family members support the Oklahoma Brain Tumor Foundation and the annual Bobby Murcer Swing for Hope Golf Tournament back in her native Oklahoma.
