Mayo Civic Center Set To Debut in 2017

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Larger meetings and events can consider the Mayo Civic Center starting in 2017. The Rochester meeting facility’s renovations will double the size of the event facility by the time it opens in 2017.

The $79 million expansion brings the total amount of event space to 200,000 square feet, which is enough to host up to 2,000 attendees. The new 40,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom offers seating capacity for 4,000 people, as well as an elegantly designed interior with a ceiling height of 32 feet.

“We listened carefully to the needs of meeting planners and event attendees while designing the expansion,” said Brad Jones, director of Rochester Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Those insights are reflected in the thoughtful design of the space, and we’re confident meeting planners will be very impressed with the outcome.”

The reworked center will also feature a state-of-the-art kitchen and expanded food service facilities. The center already boasted a 25,000-square-foot exhibit hall, a 25,000-square-foot arena and 23 breakout rooms.

Event planners can see the end result with the center’s online virtual tour of the expansion here. The center will remain open throughout construction with minimal disruption.

The event space’s name comes from the nearby Mayo Clinic, making it a popular meeting venue for medical, health care and biotech meetings and events. The downtown center connects to 2,100 hotel rooms, restaurants, shopping and entertainment via a skyway system.
